Come one, come All! Tour Historic Middletown, Virginia at this FREE Holiday event! Activities will take place at several venues in Middletown.

Hoffman House (7827 Main Street)
Tour the Hoffman House, , decorated in 1800’s holiday style. There will be hot cocoa and cookies. Kids can make and take free sparkly Santa Slime!

Wayside Inn (7783 Main Street)
Visit Father Christmas at The Wayside Inn. There will be caroling and storytelling by a cozy fire, face painting, and free tea and scones.

Aunt Caroline’s Cabin (corner of 1st and Church Streets)
Visit Middletown’s historic district. Tour and hear the story of Aunt Caroline’s log cabin on the corner of 1st and Church.  They will be providing hot cider and donuts.

St. Thomas Chapel (7854 Church Street)
At Historic St. Thomas Chapel the dulcimer group “Heartstrings” will perform at 2pm.

Mount Olive Baptist Church (1893 Senseney Road)
“A JESUS Merrimint” – from 1-2:30pm
• “A Christ Mas “Praise & Praise” singing.
• “A Youthful Blessing”; in one or more of the following: (Wearing Costumes of That Season of Long Ago, Dance, Dramatic Reading and Song).
• “Our Nativity Barn” with the “The Star of Shining Wonder” atop it, … and Straw Bales (for sitting inside “Our Nativity Barn” to take pictures for your Christmas Cards this year, with your own camera / phone.
• “A Tasty Fellowship” ; (A Cup of Soup and a Cup of Cider or a Cup of Cocoa).

Belle Grove Plantation (336 Belle Grove Road)
Nearby Belle Grove Plantation‘s historic Manor House presents “All Creatures Great and Small.” Enjoy the tour. The winter kitchen & gift shop are open to everyone. (A small fee to tour upstairs.)

Follow the Star – Living Nativity

Follow the Star is a dramatic and immersive live nativity experience celebrating its 10th year in Winchester, Virginia at the historic Kernstown Battlefield. This free event runs from 6-9 PM and is open to the public. All are welcome!

Join your tour guide who will take you on a walking journey through the scenes with live actors and animals depicting the night that Jesus was born. With dramatic lighting, sounds, special effects, and action all around you, it will feel as if you are an active participant in the Christmas story. At the tour conclusion join us for an all-you-can-enjoy fresh-baked cookies, hot drinks, caroling, photo station, and more. This memorable evening is sure to be a highlight of your holiday season.

Handcrafted Holiday at Willow Shade

Come join us for the 4th annual handcrafted event at our historic home (Willow Shade, the childhood home of Willa Cather) in Gore, VA this holiday season. We will be hosting an evening filled with good company and Christmas shopping. This year we are planning our event on a very special day… Willa Cather’s birthday!


We welcome you to invite friends and family to join us on December 7 from 1-5pm for an open house. There will be handcrafted vendors including precious metal jewelry, goat milk soap, soy wax candles, handcrafted woodwork, bath & body products, and small batch jams. Even if you don’t need to stock up on gifts come hang out for the holidays!

Food and drinks will be provided!

Candlelight Tours and Open House

Abram’s Delight, the oldest house in Winchester, built in 1754, is decorated with holiday floral arrangements by local garden clubs. There will living history in the 1780s log cabin.

Holiday Tours

For the 2019 holiday season, Belle Grove Plantation will feature decorations in each room of the historic Manor House. In addition to the centerpiece 12-foot tree in the Parlor, area Garden Clubs will adorn each room with natural decorations celebrating the theme of “All Creatures Great and Small.”

Belle Grove will be open for touring December 6 – December 30, 2019 with the following schedule:

Guided Tours: Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (last tour 3:15 p.m.) and Sundays, 1-5 p.m. (last tour 4:15 p.m.)
Christmas by Candlelight (self-guided tours and live music): Friday and Saturdays 4-8 p.m.
Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

When your tour concludes, we invite you to enjoy warm spiced tea and cookies in the cozy historic kitchen. Don’t forget a visit to the Museum Shop for unique and locally made gifts!

Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony

Celebrate the fun and excitement of the holiday season in Old Town Winchester. Bands, floats, and specialty units along with Santa will be coming to see you. Don’t forget the tree lighting ceremony, immediately following the parade.

The Old Town Christmas Parade begins at 7pm and lasts until about 8pm. The parade route is Cameron Street to Piccadilly to left on Braddock St. to left on Cork St. and finish at Loudoun St.

Tree Lighting: Santa will walk down Rouss Avenue to the official Tree Lighting stand to light the tree.

Parking: There is a $5 flat rate fee upon entering any of the parking garages for the Christmas parade.

Street Closures: Cameron St. between Cork and Piccadilly will be closed at 6:00 pm for the line-up. Streets surrounding the pedestrian mall will close at 6:30 pm for the parade


Inclement Weather: The parade will be held on the day scheduled unless there is severe inclement weather. Weather announcements will be made on local radio and cable stations. There is not a cancellation date.


Middletown Christmas Parade

Come out and Celebrate the Magic of the Holiday Season with Friends & Family in Historic Middletown, VA on Sunday, December 1, 2019.

The Christmas Parade begins at 2pm with horses, floats, bands and more leading the way for Santa and Mrs. Claus to travel down Main Street. Immediately following the parade we will host Santa with Cookies at Middletown Volunteer Fire & Rescue. Whether you have a little one with a Christmas list or just want to take a selfie with the jolly elf – this FREE event is open to all. Bring your cameras and your sweet tooth. We will once again have coloring pages to keep the kids entertained and a photo booth for both young and old to enjoy.

Come early to get a great spot for watching the parade and while you are in town explore the local shops and restaurants.



The Nutcracker

Patsy Cline Holiday House Tours

IT’S A JOYOUS TIME OF THE YEAR! The Patsy Cline Historic House will be open on weekends through December 15, 2019.

The house is decorated for Christmas in 1950’s era style, just like Patsy Cline and her mother would have done.

The house will be open for tours on Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In addition, every tour-goer between Friday, November 29 through Sunday, December 1 will have a chance to win a special gift basket with Patsy items.
