Labor Day Movie Marathon at Drive-In

It’s the annual Labor Day Dusk til Dawn movie marathon- when we go back and get the best movies of the spring/summer of 2019 and run them all night long–from sundown to sunrise! This event is quite popular and we invite you to join us this year. Bring pillows, blankets, pj’s and stay all night! We will show 4 or 5 best young family films on Screen 1 and the best more adult oriented films on Screen 2. Movie listings and tickets for this event will be published in Mid-late August, so stay tuned to their Facebook page for more details.

Gardens at Night: The Return

Celebrate the music of the fab four with nationally touring Beatles tribute band The Return. Food, beer, hard cider, and wine will be available for purchase. Bring a chair, gates open at 5:30 p.m. Food and drink stations open at 6 p.m.; galleries/gardens open at 6 p.m.; the music begins at 7 p.m. Presale tickets only.

All attendees, including children, must have a ticket. MSV members, active military & individual retired veterans: $5 per person; ages 12 & under $1; all others: $15 per person (includes gallery & Nature Connects admission). MSV member tickets are only $5, so join the MSV today!

Important information about the August 11 concert:

Gates, galleries, gardens and food/drink stations open at 5:30 p.m. (the MSV site will close at 4 p.m. on Friday, including entrances to The Trails at the MSV). The music goes from 7–9 p.m.
There are two entrances to the site for Gardens at Night (see the event map). Vehicles should enter via the Amherst St. entrance closest to James Wood Middle School; the eastern Amherst St. entrance will be limited to pedestrians. The Trails will be closed and will not serve as pedestrian entrances/exits for the concert.
For fastest entry, please bring printed versions of your tickets or have your tickets ready to be scanned on a mobile device. Please do not plan to drop tickets off at the entrance for pickup by others; distribute them ahead of time or arrive together.
Parking is first come, first served. Due to a Trails construction project underway at the MSV, parking will be limited. Once parking areas fill, attendees will need to park off site and use the pedestrian entrance.
Bring a chair or blanket.
The concert is rain/shine; dress for the weather (no canopy tents/beach umbrellas).
No outside food/drink.
Food/wine/beer/hard cider stations open at 5:30 p.m. Food will be available for purchase from Fizzle’s BBQ, Taqueria La Mexicana, The Roaming Bistro, Chick-fil-A, Talk of the Mountain Seafood, Nonni’s Eats & Sweets, and Red Fox Creamery.

Drinks available for purchase include red & white wine ($8 glass; $25 bottle), beer from Winchester Brew Works, and hard cider from Winchester Ciderworks.
The galleries, gardens—including the Nature Connects outdoor exhibition featuring sculptures built with LEGO bricks—and the Museum Store will be open from 5:30–8:30 p.m.

All entrances to The Trails at the MSV will remain closed until 7 a.m. Saturday morning (the only pedestrian entrance to the venue is on Amherst St.)

It is Fall and a cool breeze is in the air. The Baron and Baroness of Ravenwood invite all to share in a time of celebration as we welcome the new season. “Hog Wild in Winchester” – A whimsical play

Winchester Little Theater presents “Hog Wild in Winchester,” a whimscial play about George Washington’s pig law. Written by Sally Anderson. Relive the story of George Washington’s first piece of legislation after being elected to the House of Burgesses.

Free to attend (approx. 15-20 minutes) and free admission to the museum.

Shows at 11am and 2pm.

John Kirby Jazz Day

Join the museum in an exploration of jazz music! Hear local bands play, learn all about important jazz musicians like local jazz musician John Kirby, and get to have a hands-on experience with the instruments.

Included with admission to the museum.

Winchester Wings & Wheels

Can you think of a better way to spend a Saturday in the Valley than with family and friends checking out the coolest cars and aircraft?
Fun for all ages, this event will feature classic cars, muscle cars and exotics, and a variety of aircraft will be on display. There will be plenty of food, exhibitors, vendors, and entertainment!

There will also be a judged car show component of the event and prizes and dash plaques will be awarded.

The event will be free and open to the public, however donations will be accepted throughout the day. Proceeds will benefit Arc of the Northern Shenandoah Valley, an organization for people with developmental disabilities, their families and support persons. In addition to a variety of support services, Arc also provides a familiarization program for families with affected family members to help them navigate public air travel and airports, enabling these families to become comfortable with and enjoy air travel.

The event will run from 10am-2pm on Saturday, June 1 with Sunday, June 2 as the rain date.

Free parking, restrooms, food vendors, a kid zone, and more will be available on-site.

National Park Service Star Gazing Party

Gaze at the heavens with the National Park Service and the Shenandoah Astronomical Society (SAS). Telescopes are provided, or you may bring your own. SAS members can teach you how to use it. Bring a camp chair or a blanket.

Meet at the Thoburn Redoubt Tract (stop no. 2 on the self-guided battlefield tour), owned by the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation (SVBF) on Bowman’s Mill Road. This is a remote area and there are no bathroom facilities. The property does not have a street address. Use the following directions or set your GPS device to 38°59’55.4″N, 78°19’10.7″W.
From U.S. Highway 11 just south of Middletown, turn onto Water Plant Road. Go 1 mile to the intersection with Long Meadow Road.
Turn right onto Long Meadow Road. Go 0.1 mile.
Turn right onto Bowman’s Mill Road. Go 1.4 miles.
The Thoburn Redoubt Tract is marked by a Civil War Trails sign and some roadside exhibits. Turn right into the property.
