Start the New Year off right with a twist to your normal run or walking workout. Sign up for your time slot to run or walk the ½ mile paved path at Clearbrook Park and enjoy the lights of the Walking in a Winter Wonderland light show!

Walk or run as many times around the path as you like within your allotted time slot. Wheelchair and stroller accessible, and leashed and friendly dogs welcome.

Holiday Tours

For the 2020 holiday season, Belle Grove Plantation will feature decorations in each room of the historic Manor House. In addition to the centerpiece 12-foot tree in the Parlor, area Garden Clubs will adorn each room with natural decorations and crafts celebrating the theme of “A Homespun Holiday” to celebrate The Shenandoah Valley Tapestry being on display. Thanks to our Garden Club partners for making this wonderful tradition possible by sharing their time and talents with our community!

Belle Grove will be open for touring December 4 – December 23, 2020 with the following schedule:

Guided Tours: Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. (last tour 3:15 p.m.) and Sundays, 1-5 p.m. (last tour 4:15 p.m.)
Christmas by Candlelight (self-guided tours and live music): Friday and Saturdays 4 – 8 p.m.
Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Christmas Cheer at Valerie Hill

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, warm mulled wine, fire pits, and the seasonal sounds of holiday music… That’s how we spread Christmas cheer at Valerie Hill!

Join us for a special holiday evening of great wines and holiday fellowship. And just like the classic Christmas song, we really will be roasting chestnuts outdoors over an open fire for all to enjoy. (And they’re complimentary!)

The Manor House will be decked out in all her Christmas Glory with multiple Christmas trees, garlands, and thousands of ornaments! Make plans to join us on for this very special holiday event.

Holly Jolly Old Town Celebration

Come spend some time in Old Town this holiday season during our Holly Jolly Celebration on December 14th!

Enjoy caroling and holiday activities including free holiday wagon rides from 1-4 p.m. Specials at shops and restaurants all day.

Returning for a second year, shop at the Old Town Farmers Market – Holiday Market from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Here you will find local in-season farm goods including varieties of garlic, squash, heritage breed pork, jams and jellies, fresh small batch roasted coffee beans, spice rubs and seasonings, artisan chocolates and cake pops, natural health and beauty products, festive iced cookies and gingerbread kits, botanical ornaments and home decor items, homemade novelty soaps, and handcrafted jewelry and hair accessories. Sip on hot cocoa and enjoy warm frosted nuts and fresh kettle corn while you shop!

Children can create a holiday craft while waiting to meet Santa Claus at Santa’s Headquarters from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Godfrey Miller House (28 S. Loudoun Street).

Enjoy holiday carols throughout Old Town Winchester provided by local choral groups.

Free horse drawn wagon rides will be offered from 1-4 p.m. Meet in front of the Old Courthouse (20 N. Loudoun Street) to pick up a timed ticket beginning at 1pm. Tickets go fast! No need to stand in line! Enjoy holiday shopping and dining in Old Town and return to the wagon area prior to your ticket time.

Families can visit Handley Library from 1-3 p.m. for classic holiday movies as well as interactive stations and make-and-take crafts.

Santa’s Headquarters

Santa Claus will be taking a break from his busy schedule to visit with children in Old Town Winchester at the Godfrey Miller Fellowship Center this holiday season. Santa will be taking visitors on Saturday from 10am to 2pm. Make a Christmas craft while you wait to visit the jolly old man himself!

Admission is free!



Holiday Tea: Shenandoah Valley Traditions

Enjoy tea, savory delights, and desserts as MSV Curator of Collections Nick Powers presents an illustrated program about the ways people in the Shenandoah Valley historically celebrated the holidays, including “Belsnickeling” and more.

Merrimint in Middletown

Come one, come All! Tour Historic Middletown, Virginia at this FREE Holiday event! Activities will take place at several venues in Middletown.

Hoffman House (7827 Main Street)
Tour the Hoffman House, , decorated in 1800’s holiday style. There will be hot cocoa and cookies. Kids can make and take free sparkly Santa Slime!

Wayside Inn (7783 Main Street)
Visit Father Christmas at The Wayside Inn. There will be caroling and storytelling by a cozy fire, face painting, and free tea and scones.

Aunt Caroline’s Cabin (corner of 1st and Church Streets)
Visit Middletown’s historic district. Tour and hear the story of Aunt Caroline’s log cabin on the corner of 1st and Church.  They will be providing hot cider and donuts.

St. Thomas Chapel (7854 Church Street)
At Historic St. Thomas Chapel the dulcimer group “Heartstrings” will perform at 2pm.

Mount Olive Baptist Church (1893 Senseney Road)

Handcrafted Holiday at Willow Shade

Come join us for the 4th annual handcrafted event at our historic home (Willow Shade, the childhood home of Willa Cather) in Gore, VA this holiday season. We will be hosting an evening filled with good company and Christmas shopping. This year we are planning our event on a very special day… Willa Cather’s birthday!


We welcome you to invite friends and family to join us on December 7 from 1-5pm for an open house. There will be handcrafted vendors including precious metal jewelry, goat milk soap, soy wax candles, handcrafted woodwork, bath & body products, and small batch jams. Even if you don’t need to stock up on gifts come hang out for the holidays!
