Civil War Kids Camp

Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation is hosting a kids camp at Star Fort Battlefield Park.

The Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation’s Civil War Kids Camp is perfect for veteran campers or youngsters trying it for the first time.

Campers will engage in various activities such as Civil War era games; learn about civilians during the Civil War and camp and soldier life during the war; and witness the loading and firing of musket and cannon, as well as live blacksmithing!

Open to children ages 6 to 14. Space is limited so register early! Pre-registration is required. The cost is $20 (and includes take-home souvenirs). To register, or for more information, call 540-740-4545 or click the link below.

Steve Gryb, the Pied Piper of Percussion, from Miami, Florida, will presents “The Percussion Petting Zoo” activity/attraction. This hands-on activity will feature percussion instruments from around the world that everyone can touch, play, explore, and have fun making sounds. 12-5pm

Youth Trout Derby

Families are encouraged to bring their young anglers (ages 4-14) to catch stocked trout and other fish at Clearbrook Park Friday evening May 13th from 5:00-8pm. On-site registration begins at 5pm and lasts until 5:55 pm.

Fishing from 6pm- 7:30, ending with awards around 7:30-8pm. This is a rain or shine event. Participants must bring their own fishing pole, bait, tackle, and gear to reel in that “big one”. Awards and door prizes are in the works to make for the best fishing experience this year.

The Youth Trout Derby will create memories for families that will last forever!

Old Towne Halloween Faire

The Olde Towne Winchester Halloween Faire is back for 2021.

This is a carnival event featuring games, activities and trick or treating for kids of all ages.

Presented by the Old Town Winchester Business Association.

Field Day at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley

Get outside and celebrate nature on The Trails at the MSV! Stop by to walk The Trails at the MSV and visit fun stations along the way. Talk geology at the Standing Stone Circle with MSV Educator Bob Lovan, explore ecology at the MSV wetlands with Shenandoah University researcher Ashley Landes, and see a disc golf demo, run a timed 50-yard dash, and play ladder golf at a fitness station organized by Frederick County Parks and Recreation Department.

Free to all. Field Day will take place throughout The Trails at the MSV (admission required for galleries and gardens). Food will be available for purchase from the Roaming Bistro Food Truck.

MLB Jr. Home Run Derby


We will be hosting a Major League Baseball® Jr. Home Run Derby on Preston Field in Jim Barnett Park. Pre-registration is required. Boys and girls will be divided into two age divisions (12U and 14U), and will have the chance to advance through three levels of competition. The Local Champions from both age divisions will advance to the Regional Level, and Regional Champions will advance to the Finals, which will take place during the 2021 MLB® All-Star Week™.

Free First Friday

The Discovery Museum loves to give back to the community! Admission is free from 5:00-7:00 PM on the first Friday of every month. Explore all four floors of exhibits and we might even have a special program planned. Bring the whole family and for something new every month!

Masks will be required for all guests ages 5 and older throughout your visit. To visit and play at the Museum, you MUST wear a mask, no exceptions.
