The Symphony Orchestra culminates its season with music by Joan Tower and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov; and the Conservatory Choir (Richard W. Robbins, director) joins the Symphony Orchestra to present Amy Beach’s luminous The Canticle of the Sun featuring original text by Saint Francis of Assisi.

Peace

The Symphony Orchestra presents a performance dedicated to peace, highlighting music by Russian and Ukrainian composers, as well as a work by award-winning composer Jessie Montgomery, recipient of ASCAP’s Leonard Bernstein Award and the Sphinx Medal of Excellence. The ensemble also welcomes Associate Professor of Cello Julian Schwarz as a guest soloist.

Contemporary Works by Vivian Fung

The Symphony Orchestra and Clarinet Choir partner to celebrate works written by JUNO Award-winning composer Vivian Fung. Program highlights include Fung’s new Concerto for Trumpet co-commissioned by the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra and featuring special guest soloist and Assistant Professor of Trumpet Mary Elizabeth Bowden, as well as Shaman Speaks for clarinet choir and Pizzicato.
