Civil War walking tours of historic Stephens City are conducted at 10:30 a.m. on the 4th Saturday of the month, beginning in June and ending in October. Tours are led by staff of the Newtown History Center. This tour focuses on the impact of the Civil War on the town. Learn about various civilian and military activities in and around Stephens City between 1861 and 1865.

First Battle of Kernstown Tour

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED.

Join us for a detailed docent tour of the First Battle of Kernstown, led by historians Michael Cannane and Larry Turner.

This tour will be a combination of walking and driving.

In addition to gaining a solid understanding of this battle, an understanding of the overall campaign for early 1862 will be provided.

Middletown Walking Tour

Join Ranger Shannon Moeck on this 90 minute walking tour of historic Middletown. Through the war years, Middletown found itself caught between the lines of opposing armies. The town’s population of approximately 440 residents, including a small free black population of 19, experienced much of the war as a border community. This tour will discuss firsthand accounts of the residents who were greatly impacted by the seemingly endless conflict.
