Japanese Bookbinding Class

Instructor Lana Lambert is a resident book artist and printmaker at the Virginia Center for the Book in Charlottesville, Virginia. She graduated from the Corcoran College of Fine Art in Washington, D.C., where she received a B.A. in Art with a concentration in printmaking. Her areas of expertise also include bookbinding, letterpress, stone lithography, and Japanese woodblock printing.

In this course, students will make a number of Japanese-style blank books that emphasize traditional Nipponese methods of construction while learning the historical uses for these bindings. The class also features a demonstration on the preparation of book cloth, a material far different from its western counterpart. As a bonus, students will receive a lesson in traditional Japanese woodblock printing.

Join us for a workshop that is both comprehensive and enjoyable. This workshop is certain to expand your own handcraft horizon.
