Apple Blossom’s Got Talent: FINALS

Looking For New, Unique, and Unusual Talent of All Kinds!

This is the Finals for the 2019 “Car Credit Nation: Apple Blossom’s Got Talent!“, held in Old Town Winchester at the Bright Box Theater. All of the ABGT events will be held on Wednesday nights at 7:00pm: February 13, March 13, Semi-Finals April 10, and Finals May 1. The Finals will take place in the middle of the week between “Wine Festival Weekend” and “Parade Weekend.”

Prizes include $2,000 plus perks for first place; $1,000 for second place; $500 for third place. There will be 80 G/A seats upstairs and 120 G/A seats downstairs at each event. Audition ticket cost is $5.00 for Upstairs (Screen View Only), and $10.00 for Downstairs (Live View).

Civil War Historical Impressions

The Civil War Historical Impressions, Inc. will be joining us for the weekend. CWHI is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. They are a group of Civil War Educators, Living Historians and Reenactors committed to teaching through lectures, encampments, school events and battle scenarios to name a few. Abram’s Creek Nature Walk

Join seasoned naturalist and current Northern Shenandoah Valley Audubon Society President Jim Smith for his nature walks in the Abrams Creek area in the heart of Winchester. Meet at the Children of America’s parking lot off of West Jubal Early Drive, approx. 1/2 mile west of Valley Avenue. Park at the west/right side of the lot by the woods.

Focus will be on birds, flowers, trees and signs of spring.

If you arrive late, simply walk the path until you catch up with the group. Allow approx. 2 hours for the walk. Dress for the weather and you may want to bring water, binoculars, and a camera. Walks will be cancelled in inclement weather.

No fee, no registration required. Great family activity. Tour is offered March 16, March 30, April 13, and April 27.

Spirits of the Valley

This special evening experience features a walking tour of the historic Rose Hill Park trail on the 157th anniversary of the First Battle of Kernstown, a southern-inspired meal provided at Valerie Hill by Village Square Restaurant, and a complimentary glass of wine. Battle of First Kernstown Anniversary

March 23
The Kernstown Battlefield Association will commemorate the 157th anniversary of the First Battle of Kernstown. Gary L. Ecelbarger, author of “We Are In For It!” The First Battle of Kernstown, will be giving a guided, walking tour of the Battlefield starting at 9 am. Meet at the Visitors’ Center.

Please dress appropriately. After a lunch break, the tour will resume at Rose Hill Park on Jones Road at 1 pm. Shaffer’s BBQ is providing a box lunch menu. Lunches can be ordered in the morning before the tour and will be ready for the lunch break. Other activities, including tours of the Battlefield, the 1854 Pritchard House, the Museum and the Artillery Annex, will continue throughout the day. We will be open 8:30 am until 4 pm.

March 23-24
The Valley Guards – 10th Virginia Infantry, will be at the Battlefield. The Valley Guards will be doing living history demonstrations all weekend. Battlefield and 1854 Pritchard House tours will be available. The Museum, Artillery Annex and Gift Shop also will be open.

Featuring a cast of eight actors/musicians, the story follows Redbone’s return to her homeland on Black Mountain—and the coal mines of Harlan County, Kentucky—where her family has dwelled for centuries.
