Explore and learn about the hidden gems of Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park. On summer and fall evenings, rangers lead talks or tours in and around the park, sometimes at sites not normally open.

History at Sunset: Life in the Borderland: The Limits and Possibilities of Freedom for Enslaved and Free Blacks (6:30 p.m.)

What were the limits and possibilities of freedom or Shenandoah Valley’s enslaved and free blacks? How was life for those forced to live under the design of oppression? Explore with Park Ranger Shannon Moeck the answers to these and other questions. Some benches are provided but bringing your own lawn chair is suggested. Moderate walking will be required.

Meet at the Visitor Contact Station (7712 Main Street, Middletown VA 22645).
