Winchester Ciderworks Celebrates Cider Week with Special Events

Cider Making Class - November 16

Cideries across Virginia will celebrate Cider Week, November 15-24 with tastings, classes, and special events! Winchester Ciderworks will host a bonfire night and a cider-making workshop.


Bring your friends and sip cider around the roaring warmth of a fire. Learn how cider is made from Winchester Ciderworks cidermeister, Stephen Schuurman. Participants will leave with two gallons of cider to ferment at home. The workshop requires advance reservation.

Matthew Modine Weekend - A Nine Film Retrospective with the Actor in Person

Get your tickets now to one of nine movies that will be shown over this weekend to celebrate the 30+ year-long career of actor, Matthew Modine. Modine may be best known for his role in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, and also currently stars in the television series Stranger Things.

African American History Day at

Belle Grove Plantation

November 9, 10am-6pm



Belle Grove Plantation will host "Inalienable Rights: Free and Enslaved Blacks Crafting a Life in the Shenandoah Valley." The day will include special programs on the African American history of the site with special guest speakers and complimentary admission. 


Presenters from the Slave Dwelling Project (pictured) will give demonstrations and talks on the lower level of the Manor House, where the enslaved may have worked and slept at Belle Grove. There will also be an opportunity to hear about the archaeology work that has been done on the site where the plantation's slave quarters once stood.


Additional speakers will from Josephine School Community Museum, Shenandoah County Library and Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park will also participate.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Don’t miss Frederick County Parks & Recreation’s annual light show at Clearbrook Park! Families love this tradition of taking a stroll along the paved path to see thousands of twinkling lights. Each year, new features are added to the impressive display.


Opening weekend is a perfect time to take family visiting for the Thanksgiving holiday.


You can enjoy free hot chocolate and visit the cabin, where you may get a chance to meet Santa.


Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
